The “Happy Accident” We’re Glad Happened
Sometimes the best stops on a wine tour are the ones you never planned for.
During one of our recent wine tours through Hendersonville, North Carolina, our group had a bit of an off-experience at another stop along the way. Instead of forcing the vibe, we decided to pivot, regroup, and try somewhere new. That “somewhere new” ended up being Stone Ashe Vineyard & Winery — and honestly, we’re so glad it did.
Now before we get started, let’s set the tone properly.
Remember that scene in Scarface where Tony Montana yells:
“I told you, no kids!”
Yeah… it’s kind of like that here.
No kids.
No babies.
And don’t even think about giving birth here. 😂
Stone Ashe is strictly 21+, and honestly, there’s something refreshing about that. If you’re looking for a winery where you can actually relax without little kids running laps around your table, babies crying during your tasting, or teenagers hanging out in the parking lot pretending they’re in a country music video — this is your spot.
And once you walk inside, you immediately understand the vibe they’re going for.
The tasting room feels less like a commercial winery and more like a beautifully designed mountain lodge built for slowing down. Massive wood beams stretch across the ceiling, rustic stonework frames the space, and everything about it feels warm, inviting, and intentionally relaxed. It’s elegant without being pretentious — the kind of place where you instantly want to grab a glass of wine and stay awhile.
Then there are the views.
Rolling vineyard rows spill across the hillside with the Blue Ridge Mountains quietly standing in the background like they own the place. Add in a charcuterie board, a good glass of wine, maybe even one of the local craft beers they offer, and suddenly your quick “backup stop” turns into the highlight of the day.
But what really made the experience stand out for us was the staff.
Every person we interacted with was welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely happy to be there. No wine snob attitude. No rushed tastings. Just good people who clearly love what they do and enjoy sharing it with guests.
A Little About Stone Ashe Vineyard
Stone Ashe Vineyard is one of Hendersonville’s newer but quickly rising wineries in the Western North Carolina wine scene. Founded by vintners with a passion for creating high-elevation wines in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the vineyard was built with a focus on blending mountain beauty, hospitality, and approachable wines into one memorable experience.
The vineyard itself sits on rolling terrain that benefits from Henderson County’s cooler mountain climate — ideal conditions for growing European-style varietals. Over the years, Stone Ashe has expanded both its wine offerings and guest experience, becoming known not just for its wines, but for its atmosphere and scenic tasting room.
Today, Stone Ashe continues to grow its reputation as one of the standout winery destinations in Western North Carolina, attracting both serious wine lovers and casual travelers looking for a peaceful mountain escape.
