A Lifeline for Animals Across Western North Carolina
Since opening its doors in 2007, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue has changed the lives of well over 100,000 animals through adoption programs, foster networks, shelter partnerships, pet retention initiatives, and community outreach. Every year, thousands of dogs, cats, rabbits, and other companion animals have found loving homes because of the dedication of their staff, volunteers, and supporters.
But Brother Wolf’s mission has always gone beyond simply finding homes for pets.
The organization has become a resource for families struggling to keep their pets, an advocate for responsible animal care, and a trusted partner for overcrowded shelters throughout Western North Carolina and beyond. Their extensive foster network, volunteer base, and partnerships have helped countless communities care for animals during times of need.
For many of us who call this region home, Brother Wolf isn’t just an animal rescue.
It’s part of the fabric of our community.
Then Came Hurricane Helene
In September 2024, Hurricane Helene forever changed the landscape of Western North Carolina.
Brother Wolf’s campus, located near the Swannanoa River, was overwhelmed by catastrophic floodwaters. While staff and volunteers heroically evacuated approximately 150 animals before the worst flooding arrived, the rescue’s buildings, equipment, and physical assets were destroyed.
It would have been understandable if an organization facing that level of devastation had taken years to recover.
Brother Wolf didn’t stop.
Instead, they adapted.
Operating as a foster-based rescue without a permanent adoption center, they continued rescuing animals, supporting pet owners, coordinating adoptions, and serving communities across the region—all while planning for the future.
That’s what makes this announcement so meaningful.
