Amazing Chinese Food at Asheville’s Shanghai Dumpling House

Pineapple Fried Rice at Shanghai Dumplings

The Shanghai Dumpling House in downtown Asheville is such a great spot for both appetizers and a full dining experience. We have been going here since they opened, ordered from them through the pandemic, and now we are so glad to be back in the seats of this great restaurant. If you are looking for some of the best Chinese cuisine that you can find in Asheville, this is your spot! The family actually came down from New York City to offer this amazing food in the mountains of Western North Carolina.

Wonton Soup at Shanghai Dumpling House in Asheville

As with any Chinese meal, we had to start with the wonton soup, and it was delish! If you have ever had this type of soup, let me just say, this is next level. All of their dumplings are made to order, right there on the spot, and never frozen or prepared ahead of time; so you can expect the freshest eats on demand.

Next up was the dumpling appetizer, and although we usually order the pork, we decided to go with the chicken this time. So good! And we love how they leave the edges on the dumplings, making the taste and experience so much better.

We also had some lobster and we had some scallops, and wow, we loved every minute of it. They have many appetizers and dishes to choose from and we usually get a bunch of small plates to try a little bit of everything. You can sit at the bar, have a drink, and watch them cook and serve your food from scratch.

Art at Shanghai Dumpling House in Asheville

The restaurant has a great atmosphere, sort of like a higher end hole in the wall feel, reminding you of many restaurants in larger cities. The walls have sketched art featuring Bruce Willis, Oprah Winfrey, Celine Dion, Jackie Chan, and many others.

Staff at Shanghai Dumpling House in Asheville

And last but definitely not least, we have to give a shoutout to this incredible staff, which is second-to-none when it comes to hospitality and service. The kitchen is led by Chef Huang from Hong Kong, China. The bar was manned or should I say womanned by a wonderful bartender named Kaylie who was also our server and took care of us from start to finish. We also wanted to thank Catherine for sharing some of her dinner with us. She was going on her dinner break just as we started eating and was getting her food served. When we asked what she was going to eat, which was vegetable dumplings and shumai, she engaged and gave us a sample of both of her plates. YUM! If you are in downtown Asheville, stop by this restaurant for a great meal and experience. Thank you Shanghai Dumpling House!
