For many years, the family behind Mr. Sushi has been part of the Asheville community and a big reason why sushi culture took root here. In the early days, sushi was hard to find in Asheville — often only available at specialty markets like Fresh Market in North Asheville, which they established. Today, Mr. Sushi has expanded with multiple locations and is a go‑to name for locals and visitors alike looking for classic rolls, hibachi, stir‑fry, and more. Their influence even extends beyond their own restaurants, as they prepare sushi‑to‑go plates for other area businesses.
We recently stopped by Mr. Sushi on Merrimon Avenue (in the same shopping center as Moe’s Southwest Grill, across from HomeGrown) and indulged in an incredible spread: Crunchy Tofu Roll, Smoke House Roll, Crab Rangoon Roll, Inari with Avocado, Inari with Tuna & Avocado, Inari with Crab & Avocado, and Inari with Shrimp & Avocado — and let us tell you, this may have been one of our best sushi experiences in Asheville for 2025.
