Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you don’t plan at all — and that’s exactly what happened when we took off on a wine tour recently and discovered one of the coolest pairings in Western North Carolina: Overmountain Vineyards + Toasted Cuban Food Truck.

Just a short drive from Asheville lies Overmountain Vineyards in Tryon, NC — a family‑run winery nestled on a beautiful 70‑acre farm overlooking the Tryon foothills. Overmountain crafts handcrafted, French‑style wines primarily from estate‑grown grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Manseng, plus an inviting tasting room with cozy outdoor seating perfect for lingering with a bottle in hand.
Visitors consistently praise the delicious wines and engaging hosts, and the setting — overlooking rolling hills, vineyards, and warm sunshine — just feels right.
🥪 Enter the Toasted Cuban
So here we are, part of our group tasting local wines and enjoying the vineyard vibe, when bam — parked up and spreading Cuban flavor — is none other than the Toasted Cuban Food Truck. Raised by Cuban parents in Miami, owner and chef Raul Taboada followed his passion from a lifetime in food and hospitality to bring authentic Cuban eats to Western NC.
We jumped right in and ordered up one of the classics — the Cuban sandwich — stacked with slow‑roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on perfectly toasted Cuban bread. There were empanadas, fritas, maduros, and more, all crafted with flavors you don’t normally find around here!
