In late September 2024, Hurricane Helene unleashed unprecedented flooding upon Asheville’s River Arts District. Second Gear’s location at 99 Riverside Drive bore the brunt of this natural disaster. Waters rose above the ceilings, collapsing walls, and sweeping away inventory.

Undeterred by the calamity, Second Gear’s founder, Russ Towers, and his dedicated team sought a new beginning. They found solace in the Westgate Shopping Center, a hub known for its diverse retail offerings, including Earth Fare, Crumbl Cookies, and Cowboys Mexican Grill. By December 10, 2024, just months after the hurricane, Second Gear reopened its doors at 52 Westgate Parkway.
