Community & Kindness: Blue Mountain Pizza’s 20th Annual Free Thanksgiving Dinner

Each year, as Thanksgiving approaches, Blue Mountain Pizza & Brew Pub in Weaverville, North Carolina reminds us what true community looks like. This year marks their 20th Annual Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner — an incredible milestone that celebrates not just food, but friendship, compassion, and connection across our mountain town.

For two decades now, Blue Mountain has opened its doors to anyone and everyone — no reservations, no price tags, no expectations. It’s a tradition rooted in love and service, bringing together locals, visitors, and even those simply passing through. You’ll find families, solo diners, neighbors, and old friends, all sitting side by side, sharing a warm meal and conversation that nourishes far beyond the plate.

At a time when the world often feels divided, this community gathering has become one of the most powerful symbols of togetherness in Western North Carolina.

💛 A Personal Connection

This tradition at Blue Mountain Pizza holds a deeply personal place in our hearts. My mother, a retired FDNY firefighter from New York City, moved to Weaverville a few years before 9/11. Then, she lost so many friends and colleagues that day — and in the years that followed, she struggled with depression, feeling disconnected and out of place in her new home.

Then, one year, Blue Mountain Pizza announced their free Thanksgiving dinner. My mom called me, excited — a feeling she hadn’t shared in a long time — and said, “Let’s go.”

We went. That day, she talked, laughed, and met new people. She was surrounded by warmth, by kindness, by community. It was the first time in years that she truly felt she belonged somewhere again.

That experience didn’t just give her a meal — it gave her a spark back. It reminded her that love, connection, and humanity are alive and well in the heart of a small mountain town.

For that, I’ll forever be grateful to Blue Mountain Pizza & Brew Pub — not just for what they do every year, but for how they quietly and consistently give hope to others.

🍕 A Tradition That Feeds the Soul

Over the years, Blue Mountain has become more than just a restaurant — it’s a community hub, a safe space, and a reminder of what makes Western North Carolina so special. Their generosity continues to ripple through our towns, inspiring others to give back in their own way.

As one longtime customer said, “Blue Mountain Pizza doesn’t just make good food — they make good people feel seen.”

So this Thanksgiving season, we raise a toast (and a slice) to Blue Mountain Pizza & Brew Pub — for two decades of giving, caring, and bringing Weaverville and Asheville together one plate at a time.
