Coffee City USA Rising: Welcome to C.A.M.P. on the Eastside

Asheville is a city of neighborhoods, each with its own flavor — from Westside’s trendiness to Downtown’s hustle. But right now, one area is emerging as a serious contender for the crown of Coffee City USA: East Asheville. From the tunnel on Tunnel Road to the VA Hospital, coffee lovers are discovering a wave of fresh cafés, art, and creative energy. Not hipster, not touristy — just authentic community. And at the heart of it all? A bright, new space called C.A.M.P. — Coffee, Art, Music type Place.

What Is C.A.M.P.?

Located at 1 Kenilworth Knolls, just up the street from the old Mack Kell’s, and down the street from the old McGuffey’s, and old O’Charley’s, C.A.M.P. is equally coffee shop, gallery, and performance venue. It’s open Monday–Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and transforms into an open mic live music spot on Friday and Saturday nights from 6–8 p.m.

History & Heart

  • Founded by Danna Leon, who envisioned a welcoming space for young artists (ages 16–26) to grow. She leads it with mission-driven passion, volunteer support, and a community-first mindset.

  • Artists don’t pay exorbitant rent — C.A.M.P. takes no more than 30% commission on sales, and many display artwork rent-free. There’s even a waiting list now with a fresh wave of local talent joining soon.

  • Their walls burst with creativity — painters, potters, jewelry makers, knitters, and more. The space features 30+ local artists, presenting work in sketches, ceramics, clothing, and visual art,

  • Drinks include locally-roasted High Noon coffee and Full Moon teas, reinforcing the local-first vibe.

A Place for the Community

C.A.M.P. isn’t just another café. It’s a space where East Asheville’s serious coffee drinkers, regional artists, music lovers, and creative minds converge. Especially in this post-Helene era, places like C.A.M.P. are powering the community showcase, the creative resurgence, and everyday connection.

What People Are Saying

  • “A coffee shop sanctuary… an art space and café open right off of Tunnel Road.”
