If you’re looking for a sweet escape from Asheville — literally and figuratively — set your GPS for Perry Berry’s Winery & Vineyard in Morganton, NC, just an hour east on I-40. What started as a quick wine tour turned into a full afternoon of laughter, connection, and discovery at one of Western North Carolina’s most charming farm wineries.
Blueberries, Wine & New Friends: Our Unforgettable Visit to Perry Berry’s Winery & Vineyard

From Blueberries to Bottles: A Family Legacy
Perry Berry’s isn’t your average winery — it’s rooted in a heartfelt family story. Owners Terry & Debbie Perry originally started the blueberry farm in 2008, inspired by their grandchildren and a vision to grow something meaningful. By 2013, they opened their “pick-your-own” blueberry fields to the public. And in 2020, they officially released their first bottles of blueberry wine — and haven’t looked back since.

Their wines are true to their roots — sweet, fruit-forward, and proudly blueberry-based, with beautiful variations in flavor, color, and finish. If you love fruit wines or are curious to try something new, this is your spot. They’ve also won numerous awards, and after tasting for ourselves, it’s easy to see why.

A Tasting Experience to Remember
We arrived expecting a quick tour — and ended up staying much longer, because the energy here is just that good.
We took the tour with three wonderful women — one from Washington, D.C., one from Wilmington, and the other from Raleigh — all on a Girls Trip weekend in Asheville. After a hot yoga class in town, they made a plan to visit wineries across WNC, and Perry Berry’s was one of their choices.
Needless to say, we all had an amazing time together. There’s just something special about this place — it makes strangers feel like friends.

More Than Just Wine
✨ Here’s what makes Perry Berry’s a must-visit:
- 🍷 Blueberry-focused wines – sweet, flavorful, and unique to this region
- 🏞️ Scenic views from the vineyard — perfect for sipping and relaxing
- 🐐 Farm animals on site — including a friendly goat and a few curious donkeys
- 🧀 Tasty snacks available (you’ll want something to pair with those pours!)
- 🍎 Hard cider options as well — which we’re saving for our next visit
- 🫶 And most of all: warm, family-style hospitality from the Perrys themselves
You won’t find stuffy wine snobbery here — just genuine, local charm and some seriously drinkable wines.
