What started as a quick stop for Mahi Mahi turned into something much bigger: a full-on feast of fresh seafood, bold Indian flavors, and creative fusions that we did not see coming.

For years, Surf & Brew in Fletcher had huge potential. Founder Mike built something locals really loved — a relaxed spot where seafood and craft beer met in a laid-back mountain town setting.

But over time, things changed. The management and marketing direction drifted, and the energy that once made Surf & Brew special slowly faded. It became just another stop instead of a destination.

Now, new ownership has stepped in, and it’s clear they’re bringing serious culinary ambition with them.

The Feast That Wasn’t Planned

Our visit started simple.

We stopped in thinking we’d grab some Mahi Mahi and a beer.

Instead, we ended up ordering a table full of dishes — and every single one impressed. The seafood is still the heart of the menu, but now there’s a new layer of flavor and creativity thanks to the addition of Indian cuisine.

And it works beautifully.

Alongside the traditional Surf & Brew seafood menu, there’s now an Indian cuisine menu insert featuring dishes that blend coastal seafood with bold spices and classic Indian techniques.

Instead of scanning a menu list and guessing what’s pouring, the new team installed tap handles on every draft line. Now you can actually see the beers available — a small change that makes the experience feel more like a true craft beer bar.
