Asheville’s Sweetest Holiday Tradition: The National Gingerbread House Competition Returns!

It’s back — and sweeter than ever!

After a brief pause in 2024 due to Hurricane Helene, Asheville’s most beloved holiday tradition is returning with joy, sparkle, and a whole lot of sugar. The 2025 National Gingerbread House Competition™ at the Omni Grove Park Inn & Spa is officially ON — and you’re invited to witness the magic.

A Celebration of Creativity, Craft, and Community

For over 30 years, this nationally recognized event has transformed Asheville into a holiday dreamscape. Visitors from all over the country come to see intricate, fully edible works of art crafted by kids, teens, and professional pastry artists alike. Think cozy gingerbread cabins, whimsical fairy-tale castles, candy-covered villages — all made with at least 75% gingerbread and 100% creativity.

Sweet History You Can Taste

Did you know that gingerbread dates back to the ancient Greeks and Egyptians? It was brought to Europe by an Armenian monk in the year 992 and took off in the 18th century. Today, every culture puts their own spin on this spicy treat — and the Asheville competition brings those influences together in the most festive way.

🎄 Bring the whole family. Bring your camera. Bring your holiday spirit. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Asheville for the season, this is one tradition you don’t want to miss.
